Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I book?
Please send me a message with your requirements, location and date of the event. I will work with you to agree arrangements and will send a confirmation email once a deposit has been taken.
  • How does payment work?
A £30 deposit is taken in advance of your event to guarantee your slot, once the flowers have been received and dried I will be in contact to show the mocked up design for your acceptance. The summer can be a busy time for collecting and drying flowers, but once I am ready to proceed into casting I will ask for the remaining balance before completing and delivering your finished product.
  • How do I take care of the finished product?
Resin has a few limitations, care is needed to ensure that your product stands the test of time. I use the highest quality UV stabilised epoxy resin, however it is possible for resin to amber slightly over time when exposed to direct sunlight or UV light. Flowers are also a natural product and although their colour is preserved by the drying process, they can fade under UV light. For this reason I recommend that your product is not placed in direct sunlight and is kept away from heat sources. Although resin is a very hard material, it is possible to scratch the surface of your product if mishandled. I recommend buffing any scratches with a fine cut epoxy polish using a clean microfibre cloth. For deeper scratches or more extensive damage, feel free to get back in contact and I will do what I can to help.
  • How do I ship my flowers to you?
The quality of your finished piece is very dependent on how quickly I can receive your flowers after your event and how little damage they sustain. You could designate someone from your bridal party to deliver your bouquet to Marlborough; or if you prefer for your flowers to be picked up please contact me to see if this can be arranged. Your flowers can also be posted to me. I will send detailed instructions on how to package and ship your flowers after your event if this is the option you choose.
  • What quality standard should I expect?
I strive to provide the highest quality product available and have perfected my resin craft through years of trial and error. I work extremely hard to ensure that flowers are fully dried and handled with care. I use the highest quality UV stable casting resin available and follow a scientific approach to de-gassing, dust control, curing at controlled temperatures and put a lot of care into finishing and polishing. That being said, it is possible that some bubbles will appear in your product as the resin cures, although this is minimised by de-gassing the resin in advance of curing and spending many hours popping bubbles that appear. It is also possible that some flowers will discolour during drying, or when resin is applied to them. Please get in touch if you would like any guidance on flowers that preserve particularly well. The resin I use provides a very clear finish, but you may notice some light distortion when looking through the piece, which unfortunately cannot be avoided.
  • What is your process?
I have perfected my craft over a number of years and continue to find improvements to my process, its not for the feint hearted. I would always encourge others to give it a try, but I would suggest practice before you commit to a sentimental bouquet. There are a number of outside factors that I control to ensure a consistently high quality of product such as dryness of the flowers, curing temperature of the resin, dust, the release of bubbles through vacuum. However an overview of the general steps include: Trimming and drying the flowers in a silica powder. Arrangement and design of the piece. Mixing and de-gassing the resin. This process is very critical, ensuring its mixed correctly without too much air introduced and time remains for a good pour. Casting in layers, the time taken between layers is key to the clarity of the finished product. Layers are used to prevent overheating of the flowers, which can cause discolouration of flowers and warping of the resin. De-moulding, preparation of edges and sanding. Top coating and polishing. Feel free to ask if you want any more information.
  • Do you do custom pieces outside of your product range?
I am always keen to try new designs and have worked on larger customised orders during my time working with art galleries. One of the challenges with customised orders can be the high cost of good quality moulds, but please do get in contact if you have something in mind.
